إن القرآن ودعوته يعتمد على العقل وأن العاقل هو الذي يكسب الدنيا والآخرة فلا تناقض بينهما ولا تفاضل فلا آخرة بلا دنيا ولا دنيا بلا آخرة ومن هنا وضعت قواعد الحساب والمساءلة بناءاً على العقل وهو وحده الذي مَيز الله به الإنسان على سائر خلقه فصار العقل مناط التمييز والطريق إلى معرفة الله. واقترن العقل بالحرية في القرآن لأن الله يحب أن يأتي إليه العبد بوعي وعقل أي عاقلا حراً مادام الإنسان قد اختار حرية أن يؤمن أو يكفر على خلاف بقية المخلوقات التي قررت أن تعبد الله عبادة تسخير لا تخيير، ولذلك اختار الله الإنسان خليفةً في الأرض وسخر له سائر مخلوقاته مادام قد اختار أن يعبد الله عبادة تخيير فوهبه الله التمييز بين الإيمان والكفر.
