رأيتُ من واجبي عدم إخفاء أيٍّ من المراحل المتعاقبة التي كانت الغاية منها وضع نهائيا شعبٍ وبلدٍ تحت نيرِ نظامٍ لم يُخفِ أبدا نواياه في إرساء حكم يعود بنا إلى القرون الوسطى. رأيتُ من واجبي عدم إخفاء أيِّ شيء كما تعوّدت عليه دائما في كل مناسبة تتاح لي، بأن أعبّر عن المسؤولية الثقيلة التي تحمّلها رجال هذا البلد في قطع الطريق أمام صناع الشرِّ. ولم يكن من الممكن أن تتضافر الجهودُ وتتعاضد الهممُ من أجل حفظِ مصيرِ الجزائر وقدرها من السوء من دون الوقوع في التجاوزات المسجّلة هنا وهناك على طول نزاع داخلي كان قائما بين قوات حفظ الأمن وصنّاع المأساة الوطنية. رويتُ في فصول هذا الكتاب كلَّ ما أنا على علم به وذا صلة بهذا الموضوع، وكذَّبتُ بشكل قاطع الادّعاءات التي تُرفع في كل مناسبة لرمي بالخزيِّ والعار الجيشَ الذي لم يذخر جهدا ولم يبخل بدمه من أجل الحفاظ على الجمهورية. قمتُ بذلك باسم هذا الواجب نفسه، وأقصد واجبَ الحقيقة الذي يملي على الضمائر الحية تزويد التاريخ بكل الملفات التي تستحق أن تسجّل على صفحاته ؛ وأقلها ليس هو ذاك المتعلق بمعركة أمكن لبلد بفضلها اليوم أن يستردّ حقَّه في الأمل ويثمّنه.
