من نصوص الأمكنة نقرأ:» إنه جبل المعابد والتسابيح، أسير على أكتافه لتبدو لي عمان بأسواقها وشوارعها، بأحيائها وجبالها التي ترقى سلالم الغيم إلى السماء، هذا الجبل كان مقر عاصمة العمونيين، حيث نجد بقايا قصورهم ما تزال ماثلة للعيان، حيث جدران الأسوار والآبار المحفورة في الصخر الجيري، وهذه التماثيل التي تدلل على الملوك العمونيين، ونعثر هنا على بقايا آثار وأعمدة رومانية كورنثية. وأبرز أيقونة تجلل هذا الجبل هو معبد هرقل أو الهيكل الذي بناه الامبراطور الروماني «اوريليوس» ونراه واجهة مكونة من أعمدة ضخمة، كأنما ما تزال تحبس صلوات عتيقة...»
