ينقسم عملنا إلى قسمين أساسيين، ندرس في القسم الأول: القصة القرآنية بوضفها متنا حكائيا، بما يعني مجموع الأحداث المتصلة فيما بينها، وتمثل مادة أولية للحكاية الواقعة من أشخاص، وكان هذا يتطلب منا أن نعود إلى أوائل هذا القرن، لنراجع مع فلاديمير بروب منهجه في دراسة القصة، بدءاً من ضرورة الاعتماد على بنائها الداخلي وانتهاء إلى ما كان يطمح في الوصول إليه، من وصف للحكاية وفق مكوناتها الأساسية، وعلاقة هذه المكونات ببعضها من ناحية، وأحدها بالآخر من ناحية أخرى.
وفي القسم الثاني: ندرس القصة القرآنية بوصفها خطاباً، ذا شكل خاص يتوجه به سارد إلى مسرود له، وقد تناولنا هذه الخصوصية من خلال المنظومة الثلاثية، الزمن، والصيغة، والرؤية السردية، حيث تنشأ خصوصية الزمن من العلاقة بين زمن القصة وزمن الخطاب وخصوصية الصيغة من طريقة التنوع الخطابي في النص، وخصوصية الرؤية السردية من طبيعة العلاقة بين المتكلم والنص، وفي طول الدراسة كان عملنا منصباً على القصة القرآنية في شكلها الأساسي، كما وردت في الكتاب الكريم، أما ما سوى ذلك من تأويلات مختلفة حفلت بها كتب التفاسير، فلم يكن لنا به إلا علاقة الاستضاءة فحسب، وهذا لا يعني بحال أننا أهملنا تلك الكتب، بل على العكس كانت أمامنا دائماً، ولكن طبيعة البحث كانت تفرض علينا دائماً العودة إلى النص القرآني، فهو بحث في بنية القصة القرآنية، يبدأ منها وينتهي إليها، محاولاً - قدر إمكانه - تقديم وصف دقيق لها، من خلال اعتماده على آليات البحث السردي.
