يتناول المؤلف الدكتور محمد مشرف خضر في هذا الكتاب القصة القرآنية بوصفها متنًا حكائيًا، بما يعني مجموع الأحداث المتصلة فيما بينها، وتمثل مادة أولية للحكاية الواقعة من أشخاص، وكانت هذه هى مادة القسم الأول من الكتاب، وفي القسم الثاني من الكتاب درس المؤلف القصة القرآنية بوصفها خطابًا ذا شكل خاص يتوجه به سارد إلى مسرود له، وقد تناول هنا الخصوصية من خلال المنظومة الثلاثية: الزمن، الصيغة، الرؤية السردية. وطوال الدراسة يمكننا أن نقول أن عمل المؤلف كان منصبًا على القصة القرآنية في شكلها الأساسي كما وردت في الكتاب الكريم، أما ما سوى ذلك من تأويلات مختلفة حفلت بها كتب التفاسير فلم يكن للمؤلف بها علاقة.
