ثم إني رأيت المتفقهة من أصحابنا يأخذهم الملال من طول الكتاب ، فخرجت ما احتج به الشافعي من الأحاديث بأسانيده في الأصول والفروع مع ما رواه مستأنسا به غير معتمد عليه أو حكاه لغيره مجيبا عنه على ترتيب المختصر ، ونقلت ما وجدت من كلامه على الأخبار بالجرح والتعديل والتصحيح والتعليل . وأضفت إلى بعض ما أجمله من ذلك من كلام غيره ما فسره وإلى بعض ما رواه من رواية غيره ما قواه ليستعين بالله تعالى من تفقه بفقه الشافعي رحمه الله في كتبه هذا الكتاب وحفظه وسماعه ليكون على وثيقة مما يجب الاعتماد عليه من الأخبار وعلى بصيرة مما يجب الوقوف عليه من الآثار ، ويعلم أن صاحبنا رحمنا الله وإياه ، لم يصدر بابا برواية مجهولة ولم يبن حكما على حديث معلول وقد يورده في الباب على رسم أهل الحديث بإيراد ما عندهم من الأسانيد . واعتماده على الحديث الثابت أو غيره من الحجج ، وقد يثق ببعض من هو مختلف في عدالته على ما يؤدي إليه اجتهاده كما يفعله غيره . ثم لم يدع لرسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم سنة بلغته ، وثبتت عنده حتى قلدها وما خفي عليه ثبوته علق قوله به : وما عسى لم يبلغه أوصى من بلغه باتباعه ، وترك خلافه ، وذلك بين في كتبه وفيما ذكر عنه من أقاويله . رحم الله الإمام الشافعي ورحم الله البيهقي على ماقدموا من نفع ونصح للإسلام والمسلمين .
