البيهقي (384 - 458 هـ = 994 - 1066 م)
أحمد بن الحسين بن علي بن موسى أبو بكر البيهقي، من أئمة الحديث.
ولد في خسروجرد (من قرى بيهق، بنيسابور) ونشأ في بيهق ورحل إلى بغداد ثم إلى الكوفة ومكة وغيرهما، وطلب إلى نيسابور، فلم يزل فيها إلى أن مات. ونقل جثمانه إلى بلده [بيهق].
قال إمام الحرمين: ما من شافعي إلا وللشافعي فضل عليه غير البيهقي، فإن له المنة والفضل على الشافعي لكثرة
تصانيفه في نصرة مذهبه وبسط موجزه وتأييد آرائه.
وقال الذهبي: لو شاء البيهقي أن يعمل لنفسه مذهبا يجتهد فيه لكان قادرا على ذلك لسعة علومه ومعرفته بالاختلاف.
صنف زهاء ألف جزء، منها (السنن الكبرى - ط) عشر مجلدات، و (السنن الصغرى) و (المعارف) و (الأسماء والصفات - ط) و (ودلائل النبوة) و (الآداب - خ) في الحديث، و (الترغيب والترهيب) و (المبسوط) و (الجامع المصنف في شعب الإيمان - خ) رأيت منه نسخة قديمة في خزانة الرباط (433) جلاوي ، و (مناقب الامام الشافعي - خ) كما في فهرس المخطوطات، و (معرفة السنن والآثار - خ) المجلد الثاني منه، في خزانة الشاويش ببيروت، عليه خط ابن حجر والبقاعي و (القراءة خلف الامام - ط) و (البعث والنشور - خ) في شستربتي (3280) و (الاعتقاد) و (فضائل الصحابة) وبين هذه الكتب ما هو في عشر مجلدات، كالمبسوط
