بدأ المؤلف كتابَهُ ببيانِ فضـلِ الخيل المُتَّخـذة في سبيل الله، ثم بيانِ التماسِ نسلها ونمائها، والنهي عن قطعها، ثم بيَّن ما جاء في الأمر بارتِباطها، وما يُستحب من ألوانها وشياتها، وأوضح ما جاء في كراهة شُؤْمها وشكلها، وما يحلُّ ويحرم من سباقهـا، وأَتبع ذلك ببيان ما يُقسم لصاحبها من الغنائم والسهام. ثم ختم الكتاب بما جاء في سقوط الزكـاة في الخيل، فجاء الكتاب ـ بفضل الله تعالى ـ كاملاً تامًّا في أبوابه وفصوله.
