تدور قصة هذا الكتاب بين رجلين لعب كل منهما دورا خطيرا وهاما ليس فى حياه بلادهم فحسب، بل وفى حياة حاضرة الخلافة الإسلامية أيضا، وهذان الرجلان أحدهما إسكندرانى من مصر وهو عبد الله النديم خطيب وصحفى الثورة العرابية، وأحد رجال القلم والقرطاس، الذى يصعب كتابة تاريخ الحركة الوطنية المصرية فى النصف الثاني من القرن التاسع عشر دون ذكر اسمه، والآخر حلبي من سوريا وهو أبو الهدى الصيادى الذى عمل فى حاشية السلطان عبد الحميد الثانى، ووصل نجمه من العلو بحيث أصبح لاسمه أهمية بالغة فى تاريخ الدولة العثمانية فى النصف الثانى من القرن التاسع عشر أيضا.
