تعد المعايير من أهم مصادر المعلومات ليس في مجال الوثائق والأرشيف فحسب، بل في شتى مجالات المعرفة الإنسانية، فهي تساعد على توحيد إجراءات العمل في جميع التخصصات. وينطبق هذا على تخصص الوثائق والأرشيف؛ حيث تسهم في توحيد العمل الأرشيفي وتطويره. وقد اهتمت الكثير من الجهات المعنية بالعمل الأرشيفي على المستويين الوطني والدولي بإصدار معايير تختص بتغطية أغلب العمليات الفنية والخدمات الأرشيفية وإدارة الوثائق وغيرها من المجالات المتعلقة بالتخصص، إلا أن عملية الإضافة الأرشيفية تحديدا من العمليات التي لم تحظ بصدور معايير تساعد في توحيد مهامها حتى وقت قريب، لذلك وقع الاختيار على أحدث المعايير الصادرة عن المجلس الكندي للأرشيف، وهو: المعيار الكندي للإضافة الأرشيفية المعروف بـ "Canadian Archival Accession Information Standard (CAAIS)"، الصادر في سبتمبر 2017، والذي يمكننا اعتباره الأول من نوعه في توحيد عملية الإضافة التي يتم بناء عليها انتقال المسئولية المادية والقانونية والإدارية للوثائق من الجهة المسئولة عن إنشاء و/أو حفظ الوثائق إلى الجهات المعنية بحفظ المقتنيات الأرشيفية الدائمة (الأرشيفات- المكتبات- المتاحف)؛ ومن ثم يتضح لنا مدى أهمية هذا المعيار، ودوره في تحديد عناصر المعلومات اللازمة لتوثيق عملية الإضافة، من خلال إعداد تسجيلة الإضافة بطريقة مقننة تساعد في الحصول على معلومات موحدة عن المواد الأرشيفية يصعب وجودها في أي مصدر آخر، لذلك تعد تسجيلة الإضافة أداة أساسية تدعم العمليات الفنية اللاحقة. ويقسم هذا المعيار بيانات تسجيلة الإضافة إلى سبعة حقول، وكل حقل يتضمن مجموعة من العناصر، وتسعى هذه الورقة البحثية إلى دراسة تلك العناصر والعمل على تطبيقها.
