الحديث النبوي الشريف هو ك ل ما وصل إلينا وأخبرنا بما صدر من الرسول الأعظم محمد – صلى الله عليه وسلم – من قول أو فعل معي ن قام به، أو إقراره لفعل أحد م من يحيطون به، وممن احت ك بهم أو سمع عنهم، بالإضافة إلى صفاته الأخلاقي ة أو الخَلُقية أو سيرته العطرة والأحداث التي م ر بها سواء كانت قبل بعثته الشريفة أم بعدها. لهذا فالحديث النبوي هو تراث ال رسول الأعظم كاملا ا. وقد بذل العلماء المسلمون الأوائل جهد اا كبير اا في نقله وحفظه وتنقيته من أي ة شوائب قد تعلق به على م ر الزمان، وهو جهد مشكور يشكرون عليه أيما شكر؛ حيث إن هم استطاعوا أن يحفظوا لنا هذا التراث الجميل، وقد تح ول جهدهم العظيم إلى خط ةيسير عليها علماء التاريخ وك ل من لهم حاجة في النقل عن القدماء في أ ي علمكان، لما لمسوه من إتقان لا نظير له.
