طاهر الجزائري ابن الشيخ صالح بن أحمد السمعوني الوغليسي الجزائري الدمشقي الحسني، أما نسبته على سمعون فهي قبيلة جزائرية كانت تقيم في منطقة القبائل قرب بجاية، وأما نسبته إلى وغليس فهو واد نسب إليه بنو وغليس، أو أن الوادي سمَي باسمهم، وأما نسبته إلى دمشق فلأنها كانت وطنه الثاني حيث ولد فيها وعاش وتوفي فيها، ودفن في سفح جبل قاسيون، وقبره هناك تكاد تضيع آثاره
