شير المؤلف فى مقدمته للكتاب إلى أنه: لا يوجد مرجع واحد فى اللغات الأجنبية يستخدم تعبير "السينما الصهيونية"، بينما هناك كتب ومقالات ودراسات وأبحاث جامعية عديدة منشورة حول "الأفلام اليهودية" و"السينما اليهودية". ومعظم مؤلفى هذه الكتب والدراسات هم عادة من اليهود، وإن كان هناك غيرهم من غير اليهود يستخدمون التعبير نفسه، حتى أصبح مصطلحا ثابتا فى الدراسات والأبحاث الصادرة فى الغرب، بل وامتد أيضا إلى معظم الكتب والمقالات النقدية الصادرة فى الوطن العربي حول الموضوع. ومنذ أوائل السبعينيات عرف كثير من العواصم والمدن الكبرى فى الغرب ما يسمي بـ"مهرجانات الفيلم اليهودي" أو "السينما اليهودية"، وهي مهرجانات تقام سنويا وتدعمها منظمات وجهات عديدة سينمائية وغير سينمائية، فى باريس وبروكسل وأمستردام وسان فرانسيسكو ونيويورك ولندن وغيرها.
