منذ الازل كان المرض وما يزال هاجسا يؤرق الانسان ومصدراً لعذابه النفسي ومدخلاً لتدني روحه المعنوية، اذ انه نزير الفناء ودلالة العجز ومظهر النقص، لان الداء حين يأتي لا يكتفي بالأجزاء والاعضاء الجسمية فحسب ولكنه يتوغل بعيداً في اعماق النفس، فيسلبه الارادة ويلون الوجود بلون قاتم، ويتعهد الهواجس والمخاوف بالناس، فالإنسان عادة يسلك في بيئته كوحدة نفسية جسمية متكاملة في توازن واتفاق تام، كانسان كامل، فاذا ما اضطربت هذه الوحدة واختل هذا التوزان انحراف الانسان في سواه النفسي. وهنا تظهر المشكلات وتتفاقم ولعل اول مشكلة هي عدم الاستقرار النفسي والاسري والتوتر الذي يسود كل افراد الاسرة وليس المريض فحسب.
