تعتبر السينما نتيجة مرحلة معينة من التطور الاجتماعي والثقافي في تاريخ الإنسان وباعتبار أنّها فن فهي تعبر عن وعي اجتماعي حيث تعكس وجوده، إذن هي صورة عن المجتمع. وللسينما تأثير كبير على الرأي العام كما تتأثر به، فهي تنشر الوعي الثقافي والاجتماعي كما تستوحي قصصها ورواياتها من واقع المجتمع وتراعي الذوق العام لدى الجماهير، لذلك فإنّ الفن السابع يساهم بدرجة كبيرة في صناعة الرأي العام أكثر من الإذاعة والتلفزيون والصحافة المكتوبة وهذا راجع إلى كونها تصور حياة الأشخاص بصفة واقعية في الكثير من الأحيان، كما توجه انتاجاتها إلى مختلف شرائح المجتمع باختلاف فرقاتهم الفردية ومعارفهم الإدراكية، فهي تحاول ترسيخ صورة معينة حول الموضوع الذي تعالجه بطريقة أو بأخرى عن طريق تغيير فكرة معينة أو إعادة بنائها بشكل ايجابي فهي بالإضافة للتسلية والترفيه، تنشر أفكارا وتصنع رسائل إعلامية هادفة.
