يتناول هذا الكتاب موضوع مسار الحركات الوطنية المغاربية، وتكملة لما أنجزه المؤرخون الفرنسيون في الموضوع وقت الإستعمار، وأنه يمثل إسهاماً لمحاولة ملء النقص الذي يشتكي منه الطلبة في توفر مرجع يعالج هذا الموضوع، وكذلك في تجسيد شعار الإتحاد المغاربي على الصعيد الأكاديمي والجامعي، هو دراسة موجّهة بالأخص لطلبة أقسام التاريخ المغاربية يسعى من خلالها إبراز ما اشتركت وما اختلفت فيه مسارات الحركات الوطنية التحررية المغاربية في وجه الإستعمار الفرنسي لبناء صورة على حاضرها اليوم في مميزاتها الخاصة، بالوقوف على أسباب الإطار العام الذي فرض على الدول المغاربية الثلاث الخضوع للإستعمار كجزء من مجال عام، لكن مع إظهار مسؤولية النخب المغاربية السالفة في رهن مصائر الأجيال اللاحقة، وكيف تعاملت القوى الوطنية مع الفعل الإستعماري، كل منها بحسب خصوصياتها وبأي رؤى حدّدت مستقبلها.
