عَن وَقائعَ حقيقيةٍ يَنقلُ لنا المترجمُ «صالح أفندي جودت» رِوايةَ الكاتبِ الفَرَنسيِّ الشهيرِ «ألكسندر ديماس الكبير»؛ «سِر الاعتراف». تَمتزجُ في تلك الروايةِ عدةُ مَشاعرَ إنسانية؛ العشقِ وتوابعِه التي من المُمكنِ أنْ تُغيِّرَ مِنَ الإنسان، واليأسِ وعذاباتِ الضميرِ حينَ يقترفُ المرءُ ما يندَمُ عليه، وما يؤدِّي إلى بُغْضِه الحياة. وتَظهرُ تلك الصراعاتُ من خلالِ وقائعَ تاريخيةٍ حقيقيةٍ جديرةٍ بالذِّكْر، تمتزجُ بأحداثٍ شخصيةٍ لبطلَيِ الرِّواية: «فيدور» و«فاننكا». بأسلوبٍ سرديٍّ أدبيٍّ نقَلَ الكاتبُ حكايتَهما الأقربَ للمَأْساة، والتي تَعكسُ ظروفَ المجتمعِ الروسيِّ في حِقْبةٍ مِنَ التاريخ، كانَ الظلمُ فيها هو الأساسَ الأولَ في الحُكْم، وكانَ الشريفُ لا يُعاقَبُ وإنْ كانَ مُجرمًا، بينَما يُهانُ الفقيرُ وإنْ كانَ بريئًا. فهل تَنْجو «فاننكا» بفَعْلتِها الشَّنْعاء، أمْ يَفضحُها «سِرُّ الاعترافِ» الذي لم يحافِظْ عليه الكاهِن؟ ذلك ما تَتناولُه الرِّوايةُ في إطارٍ مِنَ التشويقِ المَشُوبِ بالأَحْداثِ التي كانَتْ يومًا ما حَياةَ أشخاصٍ واقعيِّين.
