تريخ سلانيكي 1563-1593م لـ سلانيكي مصطفى أفندي تأتي أهمية هذا الأثر المهم في أن مؤلفه مصطفى أفندي كان قد عاصر مرحلة مخاض انتقال الدولة من مرحلة الازدهار والقوة إلى مرحلة الضعف؛ فعاصر السنوات الأخيرة من عهد سليمان القانوني، وبدء مرحلة السلاطين الضعاف خلال عهدي سليم الثاني ومراد الثالث، وتقلب خلال هذه المرحلة الانتقالية في العديد من الوظائف في دواوين الدولة، إذ أتاح له قربه من جهازها الإداري الاطلاع على أوضاعها الداخلية والتغييرات التى طرأت عليها، وشارك في العديد من حملاتها العسكرية الهامة، الأمر الذي مكنه من تسجيل وقائعها بكل تفصيل، ومن ثم يُعد تاريخه مرآة صافية عكست صورة الدولة العثمانية خلال مرحلة مهمة من مراحل تطورها خلال الربع الأخير من القرن 16م. وإن كان تاريخ سلانيكي ينقسم إلى جزأين؛ إلا أن المطبوع منه فقط هو من قام الدكتور أحمد حنفي بترجمته إلى اللغة العربية ويتناول الفترة من 1553-1593م. بينما الجزء الثاني الذي يتناول الفترة من 1593-1600م قام الدكتور محمد إبشيرلى بنقله مع الجزء الأول إلى الأحرف التركية الحديثة، ونشر في إستانبول سنة 1999م.
