يناقش دكتور أمين عمر محمد في هذا الكتاب أقوال المستشرق المجري اليهودي جولد تسيهر وطعنه وتشكيكه في السنة النبوية الشريفة وفي صحيح البخاري خصوصًا، ويوضح لنا المؤلف الدكتور أمين عمر الدوافع والمنطلقات التي يتخذها جولد تسيهر وغيره في الطعن في صحيح مسلم وصحيح البخاري. ويفتتح الكاتب بالحديث عن بداية حدوث الطعن في السنة النبوية ويحدثنا عن نشوء ظاهرة وضع الحديث بعد وقوع الخلاف بين الصحابة، وكيف تطور الأمر مع مرور الوقت، وكيف ظهر الطعن في السنة النبوية بشكل فج، ثم ينطلق من هذه المقدمة ليحدثنا عن المستشرقين عمومًا وعن جولد تسيهر خصوصًا، وما أثاره من أقوال خاطئة فيما يخص السنة النبوية، فيناقش موقف هذا المستشرق من الأحاديث المنتقدة على الصحيحين وما قاله بأن الدارقطني ضعف حوالي 200 حديث، ويناقش الطعونات التي أثارها على الصحيحين، مثل تحريف صحيح البخاري وزعمه أن البخاري خضع لرغبات العباسيين
