تناول الرواياتِ التاريخيةَ التي تضمّنتها مصنّفات الجاحظ، والكشف عن رؤية الجاحظ التاريخية والسياسية، وخاصة رؤيته للدولتين الأُمويّة والعبّاسية. إنّ رؤية الجاحظِ هذه لم تأتِ مباشِرةً وواضحة في كتاب أو رسالة من رسائله بل جاءت عبر روايات مبثوثة في مختلف كتبه. الهدف الثاني يتمثّلُ في إبراز ما كتبه الجاحظ عن الأحداث التاريخية في دولة بني أُميَّة والعصر العبّاسي الأول، وإذا سلّمنا أنَّ الجاحظَ لم يكن مؤرّخاً، ولم يكن يكتبُ بهدف التأريخ، إلَّا أنَّ ما كتبه وتفرّد به في هذا الجانب يؤكّد حقيقةً الأهمية التاريخيَّة لمصنّفاته وهذا ما أثبتته البحوث والكتب التي تناولت ذلك العصر. ومن الأمثلة التي نسوقها للتدليل على أهمّية مصنّفات الجاحظ، عرضُه للنزاع الذي نشأَ بين الإمام عليّ ومعاوية وموقفه الجاحظِ من ذلك النزاع، وكذلك مناقشته لموضوع موضوعَ التوريث الأسريّ في كلٍّ منَ الدَّولتَين الأُمويّة والعبّاسيَّة، وكذلك حديثه عن الحركات السياسية والدينية التي عاصرها. وتمثّل الهدف الثالث من البحث بعرض الدور الذي لعبه الجاحظ في إبراز الهُويّة الثقافية والسياسية العربية والإسلامية من خلالانطلاقاً من مصنّفاته ورسائله، فقد لعب الجاحظ دوراً مهمّاً في الدفاع عن اللّغة العربية وعن العروبة التي اتَّخذَتتْ بُعداً ثقافيَّاً وفكريّاً جديداً. كما تصدّى للحركات الفكرية التي تستهدف الإسلام واللغة العربية.
