قليلة هي الدراسات العلمية المقارنة عن الثورة، أصولها وجذورها. قواعدها، ومفاهيمها، تطلعاتها وأهدافها، وأقل منها أن تكون هذه الدراسات عميقة كل العمق، موضوعية كل الموضوعية، بعيدة عن التحيز نائبة عن الغرض، ولاسيما قد انقسمت المفاهيم الثورية، شأنها في ذلك في شأن أية مفاهيم أساسية أخرى، كالمفاهيم التي تتناول الثقافة أو الحرية أو الديموقراطية أو المجتمع أو السلطة أو غيرها، إلى عالمين منفصلين من عوالم الفكر، هما العالم التقليدي البورجوازي، والعالم الاشتراكي التقدمي، ولا يربط بينهما إلا برزخ رفيع ضيق من الفكر الليبرالي، الذي خرج على تزمت الفكر البورجوازي المحافظ والكلاسيكي، ولم يمض بعيداً في تطوره وتقدمه، إلى الحد الذي يضعه في مصاف الأفكار الاشتراكية التقدمية.
