إنَّ برَّ الوالِدَينِ من أجَلِّ الطَّاعاتِ، وأعظَمِ القُرُباتِ، وأوجَبِ الواجِباتِ، وعُقوقَهُما من أعظَمِ المُهلِكاتِ، وأقبَحِ المُنكَراتِ، وصاحِبُ البِّرِ مَوفورٌ له حَظُّهُ الكريمُ، مَذخورٌ له أجرُهُ العَظيمُ، والعاقُّ ذَميمٌ لَئيمٌ، سَقيمُ القَلبِ زَنيمٌ، والبارُّ مَحفوفٌ في الشَّريعَةِ بالثَّناءِ الحَسَنِ، والوَعدِ الكريمِ، مَذكورٌ في الصَّالِحينَ، والعاقُّ مَحفوفٌ بالثَّناءِ السَّيِّءِ، مُتَوَعَّدٌ باللَّعنِ، مَذكورٌ مع الدَّيُّوثِ، ومُدمِنِ الخَمرِ، وقاتِلِ النَّفسِ، وشاهِدِ الزُّورِ. فعلى العاقِلِ أن يُعَظِّمَ الرَّغبةَ، ويُسِنَ الصُّحبةَ، فالبِّرُ شيءٌ هَيِّنٌ: وجهٌ طَلقٌ، وكَلامٌ لَيِّنٌ، والأبرارُ أخيَرُ الأخيارِ. وقد جاءَ هذا الكتابَ تَذكِرَةً صالَحِةً في هذا البابِ؛ ليَجتَهِدَ البارُّ، ويَتوبَ العاقُّ، ويَتَذَكَّرَ الغافِلُ، ويَتَعَلَّمَ الجاهِلُ.
