الكتاب دراسة نقدية في علم الرجال ورواة الآثار، حيث تناول دراسة نوع خاص من رواه دائرة الجهالة وهم الرواة الوُحدان، وأثار إشكالية صميمية في تخريج صاحبي الصحيحين لهذا الصنف من الرواة، رغم كونه لا يتماشى والتأصيلات النظرية في كتب جمهور المتأخرين القاضية بالحكم عليهم بالتضعيف وعلى مروياتهم بالضعف، هذه وغيرها من الإشكالات المثيرة للجدل في هذا المضمار تم تناوله من خلال فصلين، فصل الدراسة النظرية الذي تولى مسألة الضبط النظري والمنهجي لكل ما يتعلق بمسألة الوحدان من مسائل، ابتداء من دراسة سيرة الحافظ أبي عوانة مرورا بتعريف المصطلح ومفهومه والمؤلفات فيه، خلوصا إلى المناهج العلماء في التعامل مع هذا الصنف من رواة الآثار.
ثم الفصل الثاني الذي اختص بالدراسة التطبيقية التي تم فيها إحصاء الرواة الوحدان من المستخرج بعد القيام بسبع عمليات فرز وعدة مقابلات بكتب الوحدان المفردة كالمنفردات والوحدان للإمام مسلم والمخزون للأزدي ورسالة الوحدان للإمام المعلمي ورسالة الوحدان للدكتور الحمش، وتم تقسيمهم على أربع طبقات، ثم قمت بدراسة كل راو على حدة مرورا بأربع مراحل تنتهي بخلاصة وهي إثبات الصفة ثم شيوخه ثم كلام علماء الجرح والتعديل فيه ثم مروياته، استفتحت كل باب بفرشة إحصائية قدمت فيها أهم معالم الدراسة بلغة الأرقام، وعقدت مبحث تنسيقي ربطت فيه نتائج الدراسة التطبيقية مع ما تم تأصيله في الدراسة النظرية، وأنهيت الدراسة بخاتمة أودعت فيها أهم النتائج التي تم التوصل إليها.
