تتضمن الدراسة جزئيين, الجزء الأول يتمثل بتقييم مستوى النشاط الإشعاعي الطبيعي لعينات الرواسب التي جُمعت من مواقع مختلفة من نهر دجلة في مدينة الموصل – محافظة نينوى بإستعمال تقنية مطيافية أشعة كاما مع كاشف أيوديد الصوديوم NaI(Tl), وذلك لقياس الفعالية النوعية للنويدات (Ra226 و Th232 و K40) للوقوف على المستويات الاشعاعية بالأضافة إلى حساب مؤشرات الخطورة الأشعاعية لأشعة كاما في عينات الرواسب.
اما الجزء الأخر في هذه الدراسة فقد تم قياس تراكيز بعض العناصر الثقلية لعينات الرواسب التي جُمعت من مناطق مختلفة من نهر دجلة في مدينة الموصل, بالإضافة إلى حساب المعاملات البيئية للعناصر الثقيلة
