يتناول كتاب (عادات ومعتقدات في محافظة حمص) للصحفي والمؤلف خالد عواد الأحمد بعض جوانب التراث الشعبي في مدينة حمص وريفها فيما يتعلق بالعادات والتقاليد التي اندثر بعضها ولا زال بعضها الآخر يجاهد في البقاء كمظاهر العرس الشعبي واحتفالات الأعياد الدينية والشعبية وختمة القرآن الكريم وطقوس الاستحمام في حمامات السوق والعادات المتعلقة بالمأكل والمشرب ووسائل التسلية ومظاهر الطرافة والنكتة التي اشتهرت بها هذه المدينة عبر العصور ، كما تتناول بعض المعتقدات اليومية المتعلقة بالتشاؤم والسحر والخرافة وأساليب تخويف الأطفال في التراث الشعبي واعتقادات الحجر ، وتلك المتعلقة بزيارة أضرحة الصحابة ومقامات الأولياء وعادات تقديم النذور والقرابين والحضور الرمزي لشخصية الخضر عليه السلام في مجتمع مدينة حمص وريفها وظاهرة الطلسم ( رصد العقارب ) .
وبعض الرموز والمسميات الاعتقادية المتفرقة كـ"طنَّة الاذن" و"رفة العين" و"حكة اليد" و"طاسة الرعبة" و "الحبل السري" و "وحام المرأة" و "تكريزة رمضان" وغيرها من المعتقدات التي تجد صداها في الحياة اليومية وفي أساليب تفكير الناس بشكل او بآخر
