شنت إسرائيل في 12 تموز 2006 على لبنان عدواناً استهدف منشآته وبناه الإقتصادية والإجتماعية والعسكرية وخلف معاناة بشرية هائلة وقلقاً وكرباً نفسياً عميقين، من هنا كان السؤال الذي طرحته هذه الدراسة وهو: ما وقع التعرض لمثل هذا العنف وهذه الحرب المركزة؟ كيف تنعكس تجربة هذا القدر من الموت والدمار والنزوح على وضع الناس النفسي؟ والأهم كيف عاش الأطفال والشباب؟ لأجل ذلك تأتي هذه الدراسة لتقييم الوضع النفسي للأطفال والشباب في لبنان بعد حرب تموز 2006، استخدم فيها فريق البحث سبع ادوات قياس تسمح لهم بتقييم أنواع التعرض لصدمات الحرب، واحدة تقيس مدى التعرض لحرب تموز 2006، وست تقيس الأحوال النفسية للأطفال والشباب في المراحل التعليمية المختلفة، وقد تناولت الدراسة أطفالاً وشباباً من صف الروضة إلى الصف الثاني عشر.
وفي الكتاب، وصف للمنهجية المستخدمة في جميع البيانات وعرض النتائج وتحليلها تباعاً بالنسبة لكل موضوع من مواضيع الدراسة على حدة، في محاولة لتقديم صورة عن مدى مساهمة الأحداث الصادمة المتضافرة مع حالات التعرض السابقة والعوامل الإجتماعية الديموغرافية، بهدف تفسير الوضع النفسي للأطفال والشباب، من جميع أنحاء لبنان، أي أن العينة المستخدمة في الدراسة هي مسح الأحوال النفسية للأطفال والشباب، وإجراء مقارنات داخل العينة من الذين تعرضوا للحرب والذين لم يتعرضوا لها، بين مجموعات من الأطفال والشباب طبقاً لمتغيرات اجتماعية ديموغرافية. وبالتالي أصبح السؤال البحثي لهذه الدراسة ثلاثي الأبعاد: ما أحوال الأطفال والشباب النفسية في لبنان؟ ما العلاقة بين هذه الأحوال وعدد العوامل الإجتماعية والديموغرافية؟
