حب، سعادة، شوق وأمل... تعابير براقة شعر بها كل من وليد وسعاد عند إعلان زواجهما. دقت أجراس الفرحة في ليلة حالكة الظلام ولم يشعر العروسين أن أبواق الكآبة وطيور الموت ترفرف فوق جدران منزلهما...
بابتسامة وأمل حملت سعاد إلى زوجها خبر حملها، فعمّت الفرحة قلوب الزوجين والأقارب، الجميع فرح ويدعوا بالسعادة والوئام للزوجين ولكن الحقد فرد بجناحية على البيت السعيد (فحنّة) كانت أول الممانعين لهذا الزواج لأنها تحب وليد وتطمع بتملكه. وحقدها كان ينمو مع كل فرحة تدق أجراس منزل سعاد فكالأفعى انتظرت حنة وقوع طريدتها.
ولكن للقدر كلمته إذ شاء أن يحرم الوليد من حنان أمه وعطفها فمع صرخة الطفولة الأولى نحو الحياة تلفظت الأم أنفاسها الأخيرة وسلمت روحها إلى السماء عاهدة إلى زوجها بهدية غالية، لم ترها وإنما أحست بوجودها... طفل رضيع يحتاج إلى الحنين والحب والعاطفة وعينان تدمعان ألماً على فراق الحبيب وبسمة الملاك تحمل معها أقسى الذكريات... وحاقدة قاسية تحاول الوصول إلى الزوج وإنزال جام غضبها على الوليد...
فما هو مصير طفل صغير بين هذه الأشواك؟ وهل سينجو من أنياب الأفعى الشريرة؟ هذه القصة هي من واقع الحياة اليومية التي يعيشها البشر، أحداثها تحدث كل يوم في كافة أقطار العالم، ونتائجها دامية تصرخ بالحنين إلى السلام والأمل. الكاتبة تدعوك إلى مطالعة هذه القصة لتشعر مثلها بالحزن العميق وبعينان تدمعان على صبي صغير لا حول له ولا قوة.
