هذا ما كتبه تيري إيغلتون، الناقد الماركسي البريطاني الشهير، عن عمل إعجاز أحمد. وهو ما يتجلّى في هذا الكتاب بأشد ما يكون الوضوح من خلال نقده لإدوارد سعيد ذلك النقد الذي لا هوادة فيه، حيث يرى أن من غير الممكن التوفيق بين فهميهما للعالم، سواء العالم الراهن أو العالم كما كان في مراحل شتى من الألفي سنة الماضية.
غير أنّ هذا النقد لا يُزحزح قيد أنملة تضامن إعجاز أ؛مد مع إدوارد سعيد الفلسطيني، الذي حاول أن يشرّف هذا الأصل، رغم كل المصاعب، وبأقصى ما يملك من الطاقة، دون أن يخضع لمهنة أو شهرة أو كسب شخصي، بل بمخاطرة شخصية مخيفة في الحقيقة.
والسؤال: كيف يمكن للمرء أن يعبّر عن اختلافه من ضمن التضامن؟ وهل كبت النقد هو الطريقة المثلى للتعبير عن ذلك التضامن؟.
بين الماركسيين وسعيد ثمة نموذج ممتاز من الخصومة الفكرية المُجْدية الخصبة في حصيلتها النهائية، بعيداً عن تكرار المحفوظات الماركسية أو المحفوظات السعيدية التي تروج هذه الأيام.
