عاش الإنسان في الحقبة التوتيّة، أي منذ حوالي ثلاثة آلاف سنة، ضمن مفهوم الجسد المدنّس، وأمّا في الحقبة الّتي سبقتها، فقد كان الجسد، على عكس ذلك، أقرب إلى المقدّس؛ وفي المائة والخمسين سنةً الأواخر هزّت الإنجازات العلميّة هذه المقولة، ليُنظر إلى الجسد بعين محايدة أكثر منها، بين تناقض المقدّس والمدنّس.
الدكتور ماهر الصرّاف، المهتمّ بالقضايا الفلسفيّة، والّذي يعيش ضمن عمله مستشاراً للأمراض النسائيّة، والولادة والعقم، والتطوّرات اليوميّة لهذا التخصص، إضافة إلى كونه مهتماً بتكنولوجيا الخلايا الجذعيّة، عاش هذه الإكتشافات الّتي قادت حتّى نجاح عمليّة الإستنساخ.
كلّ هذه الأمور جعلته يتعمَق في فلسفة الجسد بشكل عامّ، وقد قدّم عدّة محاضرات تحيط بهذا الموضوع، تجمعها اليوم في كتيّب صغير لعلّها تلقي بعض الضوء على مفاهيم جديدة، وتقدّم نظرة علميّة أصوب إلى طبيعة الكائنات الحيّة، وعلى رأسها جسد الإنسان.
