قلما عرف التاريخ شخصية مثيرة للجدل كالحاكم بأمر الله. ومرد ذلك، إلى استحالة اكتناه سر التجلي لدى بعض المؤرخين، واختلاف البعض الآخر في تفسير مآتي هذا الخليفة المتميز والمتوحد، وتعمد فئة منهم طمس الحقائق بتدوين مغالطات لامست حد التزوير، متأثيرن في ذلك بالصراع السياسي والحضاري والفكري الذي وضع الخلافة العباسية في مواجهة الخلافة الفاطمية ردحاً من الزمن.
ولعل هذا الكتاب، للباحث والمدقق الأستاذ فؤاد أبو رسلان، هو أول محاولة جدية للكشف عن تلك الشوائب التاريخية، وإعادة صورة الوقائع إلى نصابها الصحيح تماماً كما جرت خلال خلافة الحاكم.
ومن أبرز الإنجازات التي حققها المؤلف، رد الاعتبار إلى العهد الفاطمي، وتكريس الخلافة الفاطمية إلى جانب كل من الخلافة الراشدية والأموية والعباسية نداً بند. ذلك أن الفاطميين ليسوا استمراراً لعهد آخر أو لخلافة أخرى، بل هم بحق عهد جديد، اجتماعياً وسياسياً وحضارياً وفكرياً. وكان لهم الأثر العميق في إصلاح المجتمع بعد أن استشرى فيه الفساد، وكادت أن تحل الرذيلة مكان الفضيلة. فأقاموا العدل والمساواة وحققوا الازدهار الاقتصادي، فضلاً عن النهضة العلمية والفلسفية بشكل خاص. وما انبثاق دعوة التوحيد التي أشار إليها المؤلف باقتضاب -كونها بحثاً قائماً في ذاته له أبعاده الروحية المتشعبة والسامية في آن- إلا فصلاً مضيئاً في تلك الحقبة الحافلة بالعطاء المتجدد.
في كل حال، بقي أن هذا الكتاب أعاد إحياء أهمية الخلافة الفاطمية وأضاء على دور الحاكم في التغيير والإصلاح -اللذين شملاً كافة جوانب الحياة المدنية والفكرية والروحية في تلك الحقبة من التاريخ- وفتح الطريق واسعة أمام الباحثين للإسهام في إثبات المزيد من الحقائق التاريخية المتعلقة بالحاكم ونظام حكمه وسياسته، والتي يتنافى إهمالها أو إنكارها مع الأمانة المفترضة في نقل الأحداث التاريخية بموضوعية وصدقية مطلقتين.
أما الكتاب في حد ذاته فقد تميز بلغة متينة وسبك سليم وأسلوب شيق في إطار تبويب متسلسل روعي فيه توالي الأحداث بدقة ووضوح. هذا الكتاب، هو في المحصلة النهائية، إضافة ثرة (كثير) إلى المكتبة العربية وقبس معرفي مشع وتصويب تاريخي لحقبة مميزة في التاريخ العربي والإسلامي.
