نقرأ في هذا الكتاب مقاربات في الأسطورة والخرافة والثقافة، تشكل مجتمعة وثيقة نقدية معرفية تعكس هواجس الحركة الثقافية في العراق تلك المرتبطة بالذاكرة الجماعية، والتي تمظهرت في حكايات وأساطير عن المكان والزمان في الماضي البعيد وكيف انعكس ذلك في نصوص الأدباء والفنانين والمؤرخين العراقيين. يقول المؤلف: "... كلما تقدمت بي السنون ساورني هاجس تلك الحكايات، هناك هاجس آخر لا ينفك يلازم هذا اللون من القص، تلك المساحة المتقاربة المتباعدة المراوحة بين الخرافة والواقع، فما عدت استكشف مناطق الخيال من المسكوت عنه في واقعنا المعاش. ان موروث ألف ليلة وليلة يلف ذائقة الذهنية أين ما كانت وتحت مسميات وتأثيرات مختلفة، إلا أن النتيجة واحدة من حيث المنهج التربوي الذي رزح تحت وطأته الإنسان العربي، لربما يكون الجو الروائي المتواصل الذي يستمد الواقع والمتخيل في نتاج وطأته الإنسان العربي. لربما يكون الجو الروائي المتواصل الذي يستمد الواقع والمتخيل في نتاج أحداثه، كان وما زال المتنفس الوحيد لما يجري من أحداث ومصائب تحيط بالإنسان (القاص- الضحية) –ما يميز مقاربات الكاتب إنها متنقلة تعود إلى الذاكرة حيناً، وإلى الحاضر حيناً أخرى، وكل مقال فيها يقدم مادة نقدية مستقلة عن الأخرى، وتتعلق بموضوع محدد (ثقافي –تاريخي) بحيث يستطيع القارئ التنقل والمفاضلة بين المواد واختيار ما تهواه ذائقته وميوله الثقافية. وجاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: 1- ذاكرة الخرافة (1)و(2) اساطير الطين، 2- جدلية الإنسان والطين، 3- الإنسان من الذعر إلى الطمأنينة، 4- العصر وثقافة الأديان، 5- خرافة الغزو الثقافي، 6- السلطة والحرية، 7- مقاربات بين الأسطورة والخرافة، 8- مقاربات في التجديد الديني، 9- مقاربات في المدرسة الدينية، 10- مقاربات في الإجتهاد والقياس، 11- مدرسة النجف الدينية، مناهجها ومراحل تطورها.
