الحياةُ دربٌ تطولُ وتقتصر، والدرب من دون علامات تيه، فلا بُدّ أن يكون للدرب علامات.
بين دفتي هذا الكتاب محطات عمر، وعلامات درب، وقصص... قصة صبي تَربّى على التُقى، من أب كان مسعوداً، مهيوب الجانب، كله جد في وَرعٍ ووداعة وتواضع في ترفع، في ضيعة كان ناسها على دين المسيح ودين محمد عاشوا على ألفة وتحاب، فغاص على تراث ضيعته وأضاء عليه، ليس وصّافاً لما عاين وعايش بقدر ما هو متأمل على عمق حسرة بحلو ماضٍ وبشاعة حاضر.
وقصة شاب ترك ضيعته طلباً للعلم والرّفعة، فبهرته المدينة، وصدمته حقيقتها الفجة، ذاق مُرّ العناء، ولم يبقَ حسيراً كليلاً أمامه، وما تورّعَ على مجاهدته بعزم وثّاب وشغف لا حدّ له لإكتساب المعرفة، ومن مقاعد الدراسة الثانوية إلى الجامعة درب كانت لها علامات الجهد الموصول.
وقصة ثائر، كان نزاعاً إلى الحرية، إبتلى بلوثة الفكر العروبي، فسلك درب المكاسرة، وظل مستقلاً، متمرداً ما استطاع تيار أن يغمره أو حزب أن يحتويه، ودفع جزية تمرده وثورته، فمن سنتين من إكمال دراسته في الجامعة الأميركية، ليعود إليها، بعد ذلك، ويخرج منها وقد نال في علم الإقتصاد شهادات.
وقصة رجل طوته صحراء العرب، ومعلم علّم ما تعلّم، وموظف خبر عفن الإدارة ومكرها وجحودها وترهلها.
وقصة صحافي غَمَسَ أصابعه بالحبر، وحبره لم يتلوّن، وكلماته، في ما كتب، إنسكبت حيّة من دواة قلبه وضميره، وكان مؤرخ اللحظة اللبنانية والعربية في وعي لزمانه بكل لحظاته، وفي إستيعاب الأمور بكل دقائقها، يسمع ما يدور في أعماق أولي الأمر وأصحاب القرار أكثر مما يسمع ما يقولون.
بين دفتي هذا الكتاب قصة درب سليمان الفرزلي.
