هذه الدراسة: محاولة لتحقق من مدى صحة روايات وصلت إلينا من الماضي، ومدى دقة آراء تبناها مؤرخون محدثون، تلك الروايات وهذه الآراء أشاعت حالة الإضطهاد في الدولة الأموية ضد أحد أهم عناصر رعاياها ألا وهم الموالي، تلك الشريحة التي تمثل خلفيات قومية مختلفة أبرزهم الفرس ويليهم الروم ثم البربر وأقوام بلاد ما وراء النهر وغيرهم ممن انضوى تحت لواء هذه الدولة آنذاك.
كما أنها تمثل محاولة لإثبات المشاركة الفاعلة للموالي في الدولة الأموية وأن ما قيل من أن هناك حجراً وظيفياً عليهم سواء أكانت أسبابه تعود إلى نظرة تعالي تجاههم أم إلى الحذر منهم لا أساس له في الواقع التاريخي، ذلك الواقع الذي كشف أنهم وصلوا إلى مناصب عليا في الدولة الأموية عز على الكثير من العرب الوصول إليها وحظوا بمكانة كبيرة لدى خلفائها كانت محل حسد من العرب، وأولوهم ثقة لم يسبق أن أعطوها لأناس من العرب، وبذلك أثبتت خلاف ما ذهبت إليه الدراسات الأخرى منطلقة من رؤية علمية اعتمدت على العديد من الشواهد التاريخية وليس على روايات قيلت في الماضي وأخذت من غير تدقيق ولا على تأويلات أطلقت دون إستناد إلى دليل علمي.
الدراسة تمثل دعوة تضاف إلى سابقاتها من الدعوات التي وجهها كثير من المؤرخين العرب لإعادة تمحيص التراث وتدقيقه للتخلص من المشكلات التي تسببت بها أخبار ليس لها في الواقع التاريخي أساس، كانت تقف وراءها دوافع دينية ومذهبية وسياسية بغيضة استند إليها البعض بوعي وغير وعي، وبنى عليها أفكاراً كانت وراء تلك المشكلات التي تعاني منها امتنا إلى الآن، وما قام به البحث من معالجة وما توصل إليه من نتائج هو خطوة في طريق تلك الدعوة.
