المقصود بالمفاهيم الأركونية، هو ذلك الجهاز المفاهيمي الذي حاول المفكر المغاربي الراحل محمد أركون بلورته أو إستعارته ونقله بعد تبيئته، من مجالات معرفية متعددة فلسفية ولسانية وسياسية وتاريخية وأنتروبولوجية وسوسيولوجية من أجل إنجاز قراءة نقدية علمية للموروث الثقافي العربي الإسلامي عبر نقده للعقل الإسلامي بإعتباره الجهاز المعبر عن هذا الموروث قديماً وحديثاً.
وقد عمل أركون في كثير من الأحيان على توضييح تلك المفاهيم في إطار المجالات الأصلية التي وردت ضمنها ثم بيان كيفية إستعمالها مع الإشارة إلى حدود ذلك الإستعمال وإجرائيته محذراً بإستمرار بأن الباحث داخل الثقافة العربية الإسلامية يخاطر ليس فقط بعمله ومجهوداته الفكرية بل كذلك بحياته ما دام يطرق أبواباً موصدة ومحروسة من طرف الفكر الأرثوذوكسي الذي استطاع أن يحكم الإغلاق بقوة منذ عصور طويلة.
فالمجتمعات العربية الإسلامية مجتمعات محافظة ومن الصعب أن تظهر فيها دراسات تحاول تفكيك المسلمات وإعادة النظر في البديهيات، وهذا ما يجعل ناقد العقل الإسلامي محتاجاً إلى الوقت وإلى تظافر الجهود حتى يتمكن من تحقيق أهدافه، مشيراً إلى أن المجتمعات الأوروبية مرت من نفس مرحلة الإنسداد التاريخي والإنغلاق اللاهوتي لكن عندما حان الوقت انفجرت الحداثة وغيرت كل شيء.
نقصد كذلك بالمفاهيم الأركونية تلك المصطلحات التي حاول الراحل نحثها وبلورتها وإيجاد صيغ لها في اللسان العربي وهذا عمل يتطلب القيام بإجتهادات كبيرة ومعرفة واسعة بأصول هذا اللسان وقواعده.
في هذا الإطار يشير أركون إلى أنه داخل كل لغة بشرية معينة تترسخ أشكال معينة من التعبير والصياغات اللغوية تؤدي إلى خلق إطار لممارسة فكر لا يخرج عن هذه الصيغ التي قد تبقى على حالها لفترة طويلة إذا لم يتدخل شيء من الخارج لزعزعتها، فتترسخ المعاني والدلالات وتصبح مثل الطبقات الجيولوجية التي تتحول مع مرور الزمن إلى أشكال من التصلب والإنغلاق على الذات...
