يتضمن هذا العمل بمعظمه أسماء شخصية لبدو من وسط شبه الجزيرة العربية لكنه يحتوي أيضاً إلى جانب ذلك على بعض الأسماء لبدو من غربي شبه الجزيرة العربية ومصر ولحضر من قصيم طالما كانت هذه الأسماء مشابهة للأسماء البدوية.
عند القراءة الأولى لهذه الأسماء سيلاحظ المرء أن الأسماء المركبة مع كلمة "الله" وكذلك الأسماء الإسلامية الشائعة جداً مثل أحمد وطه وإلخ... تكاد تكون معدومة عند البدو، خلافاً لما عليه الحال عند الحضر، بالمقابل سيجد أسماء تعبّر عن صفات وأشياء طبيعية من نباتات وحيوانات وإلخ... وسيجد أيضاً أن الصيغ المختصرة لا تحتوي مجموعة الأسماء التي بين أيدينا سوى الصيغ الثلاث المشتقة من لغة الحضر للإسم عبد الرحمن وهي: العّبيدّي، ودْحيم، ودِحْمان، والأسماء المؤلف من جملة، والتي كانت شائعة في اللغات السامية القديمة، لم تعد موجودة في وسط شبه الجزيرة العربية.
أما الأسماء المؤلفة من جملة انظر: تَمنّوها. والأسماء المرتبطة بحرف جر انظر: بِيَدهِ، فلم أجدها إلا لدى أولاد علي المصريين الذين يتكلمون لغة غربية قديمة تشبه في كثير من الجوانب لغة نجد.
كل هذه الأمور يلاحظها المرء عندما يطلع على أسماء عائلة بدوية تتألف من عدد غير قليل من الأفراد كما يتبين من الأمثلة المذكورة في الكتاب.
