إن عملية تعليم الرياضيات في جيل الطفولة المبكرة هي أوسع وأعمق من مجرد تدربَ على عمليتي العدَ والجمع، إن مرحلة الروضة هي مرحلة عمرية مناسبة من أجل إثارة اهتمام الأطفال في العدَ، والتصنيف، وبناء الأشكال، والتمييز بينها.
يساعد كتاب (الرياضيات.. المستوى الثاني) الطلاب في مرحلة الروضة على بناء أول لبنة في مادة الرياضيات وفق قواعد علمية مدروسة أعدها المؤلف من خلال الكلمة والرقم والصورة، وعبر أربعة فصول جاء الفصل الأول على شكل (نشاط) يتضمن مفاهيم: التناظر، والكسور، النقود، القياس والأشكال. أما الفصل الثاني فهو تدريب على عمليتي: الجمع والطرح حيث المجموع لا يزيد عن (9)، وأما التعرف على العدد (10) وكتابه فهو نشاط الفصل الثالث من الكتاب ويضم تدريبات وتوجيهات عن مجموعات من العشرات والآحاد ومن ضمنها كتابة أعداد مؤلفة من رقمين مثل (13) و(15)و(20) وفيها يتعلم الطالب العد من (1) وحتى (20)ز ويأتي الفصل الرابع والأخير في تعلم مهارات العد من الرقم (20) حتى الرقم (50) مع نماذج من أسئلة وتدريبات.
