تدور أحداث هذه الرواية العاطفية حول مغامرة قامت بها إحدى الفتيات من أصحاب المزارع في إنجلترا، عندما اضطرت إلى اصطحاب شخص مخمور مريض بسيارتها من لندن، حيث كان يقام حفل جوائز سينمائية حصلت فيه على جائزة عن فيلم تسجيلي كتبته.
ونقلت الشاب إلى مزرعتها على بعد مائتي ميل من المدينة. اكتشفت بعد ذلك أنه نجم سينمائي وتليفزيوني مشهور، ولم تكن تعرف ذلك، لأنها لم تكن مولعة بمشاهدة الأفلام السينمائية أو التليفزيونية.
يقع الاثنان في حالة حب شديدة تنتهي بزواج سريع، ثم يضطر البطل للسفر إلى أحراش ماليزيا كي يصور مشاهد فيلمه الأخير، فتصر البطلة على مصاحبته رغم تحذيره الشديد لما قد تلقاه أو تسببه من متاعب، وبالفعل تتسبب في مشاكل عديدة تؤدي إلى أن يعيدها غاضباً إلى مزرعتها وهما شبه متفقان على الطلاق على الرغم من أنها كانت حاملاً منه.
