في هذا الكتاب يركز المؤلف في مقالاته على الجوانب المحلية والقضايا الإنسانية التي يلتقطها خلال عمله ويعيدها في قالب قصصي حكائي لا يبتعد كثيرا عن النمط الحكائي الذي يركز على العبرة والفائدة والمعنى.
العنوان الذي اختاره الكاتب ينطوي على ما تحيل إليه رحلة هذا النوع من الطيور الذي لا يكف عن عادة الهجرة التي تجري في دمه، فهو يهاجر ليضع بيضه في بلاد بعيدة، لتعود فراخها مرة أخرى لموطنها، فهي رحلة دائرية لا تكف عنها هذه الطيور وهي تسلم روحها للغربة التي سلمها جده لوالده، ثم سلمها والده له، وهو بدوره يسلمها لولده وهو يمتطي جناح الرحلة لغربة جديدة.
ويتتاول الكاتب بأسلوب سردي الكثير من الحكايات، ومنها: "عن شقيقتي وتوفيق أبو الهدى" التي يحكي فيها عن شقيقته الراحلة التي دفنت في مقبرة المصدار، ولم يتسن له معرفة قبرها، كما لم يعرف قبر رئيس الوزراء أبو الهدى الذي تسلم الوزارة لأكثر من عشر مرات.
