"وردة قاسمتها خوفي. ألوانها اختلطت عليّ، وكنت قبل قد اختلطت. لم أستقم. آن عليّ وعيته، آن واستلف الكلام. أقيم منه قصيدة لتماسكي. لم أصل بعد.. حوت حيرتي الورد، سرقت ضوءه وتماسكه، أغامر. خوف يزيد يغامرني ثم لا أهل. حين لا أهل تكبر فيك القصيدة.. وفي الشارع الحرّ تختارهم. تعوّدتهم، لست تحتار حباً. لكن تعودت حدّ التوحش إن لم يكونوا. تغيب عن الوعي حين يكونوا غشاءً عليك. لا نفس ناهض بهم، لا نفس ناهض وهو منهم. عوّدوك على موتهم. غربة مرّة، أو فأهل أمرّ أين تتجه الآن؟ كبرت، يحيرك الورد أكثر أكثر. ما زلت تشكو لغربتك الأهل. تعوّدت فاحتجت.. أنت لن تنتهي".
تقول الشاعرة بأن نصوصها نموذج لإبداع يسعى أن يكشف الستار والمستور أيضاً عن وضع المرأة وإبداعها في السعودية حيث إنها الطرف الأكثر كموناً وتخفياً وتمدداً وتأملاً. أرادت أن تحرر ذاتها من باطنها الذي أثقلته بها تقاليد مجتمعها. اختارت الشاعرة نصوص ديوانها هذا لتساعد القارئ على تكوين انطباع عن الحركة الإبداعية الراهنة في السعودية التي يتبناها الشعر أكثر من أي شكل إبداعي آخر.
وترى الشاعرة هدى الدغفق أن المبدعة السعودية استفادت من حداثة الشعر وكثافته ولغته ومتخيله وكانت أكثر قابلية لأدوات التعبير المتطورة وأعمق وعياً بها واستعمالاً لها. وترغب الشاعرة أن تختصر المسافة وتصل بالقارئ إلى فكرة وتصور لبعض القضايا والاهتمامات وربما الهموم التي شغلت المرأة في السعودية عقدين من الزمان تقريباً. وتجدر الإشارة إلى أنها اختارت نصوص هذا الديوان من ثلاثة دواوين لها هي (الظل إلى أعلى) صدر عام 1993، و(لهفة جديدة) 2002، و(حقل فراش) الذي سيصدر عام 2008. ويتضح من هذه النصوص، بالإضافة إلى ما سبق، اهتمام الشاعرة بتناول الموجودات وتفاصيلها.
