يدور البحث في هذا الكتاب من سلسلة :"قضايا إسلامية معاصرة ضمن أربعة فصول: ألقى أولها نظرة عابرة على واقع البيئة في التاريخ الإسلامي، وسبق ذلك حديث عن واقع البيئة في عالمنا المعاصر، وأسباب التلوث البيئي ومخاطره، وعلاقة الدين بالبيئة... وعمل الثاني على اكتشاف وإبراز بعض القواعد الفقهية العامة التي يمكن بواسطتها تكييف قضايا البيئة ومسائلها مما قد يساهم في إعطاء علاج إسلامي لمشاكل التلوث البيئي. وتحدث الفصل الثالث عن عناصر البيئة الرئيسية من الماء والهواء والأشجار والمدن والحيوان... ليبين الحكام الإسلامية الخاصة بذلك والتي تساهم في حماية هذه العناصر، وأما الفصل الرابع فخصص للحديث عن أشكال أخرى من التلوث نظير التلوث المسمعي والبصري ونظرة الإسلام حول ذلك.
