"إن فشل الإنسان في التعامل مع البيئة الطبيعية أدى إلى اختلال التوازن بين موارد الأرض وقدرتها على إعطاء الإنسان ما يحتاجه ويتطلبه، كما إن إخفاق الإنسان في وضع ضوابط للانفجارات السكانية، ودون الأخذ في الحسبان التوازن المطلوب بين حجم السكان والتكدس العشوائي في بيئات حضرية مزدحمة تفتقر إلى الضرورة الصحية المناسبة وتلوث المياه بسموم الكيماويات، وتلوث الهواء بالأدخنة والغازات، كل هذا دليل على سوء تعامل الإنسان مع البيئة، وقد أدى ذلك إلى ظهور تحديات كبيرة ما زالت تخل في التوازن بينه وبين بيئته الطبيعية، وهذا الإخلال من أبرز المشكلات والتحديات التي يواجهها الإنسان في العالم عامة وفي العالم النامي والعربي خاصة. أما العالم النامي فيواجه تحديات كبيرة في العلاقة التي تقوم على عدم التوازن بين الإنسان وبيئته وقد آن الأوان لأن يتنبه الإنسان إلى الأخطار الناجمة عن تدهور بيئته. علماً أن المجال لا زال متسعاً لأن تكون للتربية البيئية دور كبير في مواجهة المشكلات وإعادة التوازن إلى هذه البيئة التي تقهقرت نباتاتها وانقرضت الكثير من حيواناتها وقلت أمطارها وانجرفت تربتها."
