في هذا الكتاب يعالج هاشم صفي الدين/ رئيس المجلس التنفيذي في حزب الله اللبناني إشكالية العلاقة بين المقاومة والمشروع في ظل الواقع السياسي الذي تعيشه البلاد.
وفي هذا السياق ينطلق الكاتب من التجربة اللبنانية من أجل الإقتراب من روح الإشكالية المطروحة من حيث التعارض أو التمازج بين المقاومة والدولة، فيعرض بأمانة لكل وجهات النظر المطروحة على الساحة اللبنانية اليوم التي بلغت حدَ التباين أحياناً. فالبعض يرى أن المقاومة تستند إلى ثقافة ومشروع وأهداف خاصة لا يتحملها لبنان الوطن والدولة. والبعض الآخر يرى أن الأولوية هي الدفاع عن الوطن في ظل الإنتهاكات الإسرائيلية على مرَ التاريخ اللبناني الحديث. يقول الكاتب "إن التجربة التي خاضتها المقاومة الإسلامية بكل مراحلها مع ما فيها من تضحيات ومرارات وانتصارات فريدة، كانت تصب في خدمة رؤية سياسية وطنية، مفادها أنه لا يمكن أن نحلم ببناء وطن على هذه الأرض الصغيرة الحجم في منطقة الشرق الأوسط بمحاذاة العدو الإسرائيلي المغتصب لفلسطين دون أن نحافظ على قرارنا الحر بعيداً عن التهديدات الإسرائيلية... وتأثير سياسات العدو على القرار السياسي اللبناني، هذا هو محور المفهوم السيادي، وأي نقاش آخر يبقى بنظرنا ثانوياً(...)".
