قد حاولت هذه الدراسة أن تسلط بعض الضوء على حياة الخنساء والنكبات التي حلت بها وفجرت شاعريتها أو عملت على رفد تلك الشاعرية بنهر دافق من الحزن والأسى، ثم انتقلت إلى دراسة شعرها وتبيان خصائصه ومميزاته، لتنتهي بعد ذلك إلى ذكر منزلتها في القديم والحديث.
وقد طمحت الدراسة أن تقدم للقارئ بحثاً شاملاً دقيقاً ومركزاً حول هذه الموضوعات التي سبقت الإشارة إليها بحثاً يجمع بين الشمول والدقة من جهة ويوفق بين المنهج العلمي وما يتطلبه القارئ من جهة ثانية.
وتسهيلاً على القارئ أنهى هذا البحث بمختارات من نتاج الخنساء تسهل لمن يشاء الربط بين ما ذهبت إليه الدراسة حول هذا النتاج والنتاج نفسه إكمالاً للفائدة.
