يعتبر "جان بو سارتر" من أشهر فلاسفة القرن العشرين. ولم تقتصر شهرته على الدوائر العلمية أو الأدبية التي تهتم بالفلسفة، بل تعدتها إلى قطاع واسع من عامة الناس، وممن لا يبالون بالفلسفة، أو ممن يهربون من الاطلاع على مصادرها أو قراءة كتبها لما تكتظ به من تعقيدات لفظية ومعنوية. والسبب في ذلك هو أن "سارتر" عالج نظرياته بأسلوب سهل مبسط، ولم يعالجها وهو يجلس في برج الفلسفة العاجيّ كما يقولون، ولكنه أعلن آراءه وتوجيهاته من خلال مقالاته الصحفية التي كان ينشرها في المجلة التي كان يشرف عليها واسمها (العصور الحديثة) أو بوساطة قصصه القصيرة والطويلة ومسرحياته الحديثة. هذا ويظن غالبية الناس أن سارتر هو منشئ مذهب الوجودية، ولكنه ظن خاطئ، فمذهب الوجودية موجود من قبله كما سيأتي على بيانه المؤلف في هذا البحث، ولكن سارتر هو من بلور المذهب الوجودي المعاصر. وهكذا تناول الباحث ومن خلال دراسة معمقة الفيلسوف الفرنسي الذي هو من أكثر الفلاسفة تعرضاً للتقول عليه ولتحريف آرائه ونظرياته التي نادى بها.
