ربما يكون جان - بول سارتر (1905- 1980) الفيلسوف والكاتب المسرحي والشخصية الكبيرة للمثقف السياسي قد طبع القرن العشرين بطابعه، فهو مفكر الحرية ووجهها الآخر، مفكر الإغتراب والإلتزام والمسؤولية، مفكر الوجود لذاته والوجود في ذاته، مفكر الضمير والعالم، الذات والآخر، مفكر الأخلاق وسوء النية مفكر الجماعة قيد الإنصهار والسلسلة، مفكر الكلية والتاريخ، إنه صوت أصيل وسط الفلسفة الفينومنولوجية، بالنسبة إلى سارتر يعتبر الإنسان حرّاً بالكامل ومسؤولاً عن أفعاله، لا عذر له، وهو مغترب كليّاً، لأنه وعي للعالم، وهو بموقع ذاته في موقف معيّن - لا معنى له إلاّ بالنسبة لوعي حر.
نقترح هنا القيام بجولة في عمل صعب وكثيف، من تعالي الأنا إلى أحمق العائلة، مروراً بالوجود والعدم والأخلاق والتاريخ بشكل خاص، إلاّ أننا نبدأ بحياة سارتر السياسية وذلك بهدف الإطلالة على تماسك إلتزاماته.
ثم نتناول فلسفته في الحرية، وإكتشافه لفلسفات هوسيرل وهيدغر، ثم إبتكاره لفلسفته السارترية الخالصة، الطريق العابرة للظواهر التي تتيح إعادة التفكر بعلاقة الإنسان بالعالم من خلال تصوره لمفهوم الكوجيتو ما قبل الإنعكاسي، وصولاً إلى تصالب الحرية والإغتراب.
ثم نستعيد فهمه لنشوء المجتمع، والتاريخ وشروط إمكانياته، وقوة التكيف، هذا إلى جانب هامش فعل كل حرية.
وبعد تاريخ الحرية بشكل خاص يأتي دور غوستاف فلوبير، وبعد ذلك سنتناول الأخلاق والمعنى الذي يمكن أن تأخذه في تكوين فلسفة الموقف.
كما سنولي إهتمامنا أخيراً لسارتر المنظر للأدب والمسرح والفنون.
