كتاب "التوزيع اللغوي الجغرافي في العراق" هو مجموعة محاضرات ألقاها الدكتور إبراهيم السامراني على طلبة قسم البحوث والدراسات الأدبية واللغوية في مهد البحوث والدراسات العربية، التابع لجامعة الدول العربية. وقد ركز فيها على التوزيع اللغوي الجغرافي في العراق، وعلى الأصول التاريخية لهذا التوزيع، وتناول اللهجات المحلية من بدوية وقروية وحضرية، مستعيناً بالخرائط لتحديد المعالم والحدود. هذا ولم يغفل العوامل التاريخية فتناول سكان العراق بدءاً من سومر مروراً بالبابليين والآشوريين والآراميين وصولاً إلى العرب. وتناول أيضاً مجموعة من الألفاظ الموصلية والبغدادية وطائفة من ألفاظ سكان الأهوار، ولم يغفل التركمانية والكردية وهو في كل ذلك عرج على مسائل الصرف والنحو والصوتيات والمعاني والمعجمية واللسانيات عموماً، بحيث يشكل كتابه ثروة لغوية بعامة ومعجمية بخاصة.
