تتناول الدراسات التي يضمها هذا الكتاب جوانب نظرية وتطبيقية مختلفة في صناعة المعجم العربي، وقد ألقيت معظم هذه الدراسات في ندوات عالمية وعربية متخصصة عقدت في تونس والسعودية وسيرلانكا وغيرها. ولهذا فإن بعضها قد كتب أصلاً باللغة الإنكليزية ثم ترجم إلى العربية. وهكذا نجد أن معظم المصادر والمراجع في هذه الدراسات أجنبية، كما استعمل التقديم الميلادي فيها. وبالرجوع إلى مادة هذه الدراسات نجد أنها قد تناولت مسألة التمييز بين القاموس والمعجم، من زاوية التخلص من الاشتراك اللفظي، وكيفية استخدام هذين المصطلحين مع إلقاء الضوء على المسيرة الاستعمالية لهما حتى العصر الحديث، عرفت بعض الدراسات على موضوع المصطلحات المعجمية وعلم المعجم وصناعة المعاجم، وكذلك على المصطلحية وعلم المصطلح وصناعة المصطلح.
كما وذكرت بعض دراسات هذا الكتاب الخصائص المميزة المعجمية العربية بخاصة ترتيب المدخل وترتيب المعاني والمعلومات التي يتوجب توافرها صوتياً ونحوياً وشواهد ناهيك بأصناف التعريفات الشاحرة وأنواعها، كما وأفاضت بعض دراسات الكتاب في معالجة المعجم العربي للناطقين للغات الأخرى وكذلك بمعاجم الاستشهادات وتقنياتها. والمعاجم المتخصصة ودورها في التكنولوجيا، ودور الترجمة في التبادل الثقافي، ومشاكل المترجم في المنظمات الدولية، ومبادئ المعجمية الحديثة وتطبيقاتها على المعاجم الثنائية اللغة العربية الانجليزية والفرنسية العربية كما عالجت بعض الدراسات مسألة اختصار المعاجم، وطرائق الاختصار، وأهدافه من خلال مختار الصحاح للرازي، الذي يقوم على: اختصار المعلومات النحوية، وحذف الألفاظ الحوشية، والمعاني الغريبة، والمعلومات الموسوعية، والشواهد والمصادر والمراجع.
