هل هناك إمكانية لتوحيد "الكتابة التاريخية في لبنان؟" وفي أي اتجاه أو منهجية؟ وبصدد المناهج لماذا صدرت كل المناهج المدرسة عام 1997 ولكل ما عدا مادة التاريخ؟ ولماذا ركز اتفاق الطائف (1989) على مادتي التاريخ والتنشئة الوطنية في نصوصه دون غيرهما من مواد التعليم؟ ومن خلال الدور الأساسي لمركز البحوث والإنماء التربوي لماذا تعددت لجان مناهج التاريخ ولجان الكتب وتكاثرت دون أية نتيجة نذكر أو صعود لأي دخان أبيض، رغم الأموال الطائلة التي صرفت لجلساتها ومحاضرها؟
أما طرائف تدريس التاريخ على أنواعها، فأي منها يتلاءم مع نظام التعليم في لبنان؟ ومن خلال الطرائق والتقويم. أي مواطن نريد أن تخرجه؟ وما هي المعلومات التاريخية التي ستزوده بها؟ وهل هي كافية لجعله مدرساً يتمتع بمواصفات مهمة في الانتماء الوطني والتفكير المنطقي والموضوعي؟
الهدف من هذه الدراسة هو الإجابة عن هذه الأسئلة أو بعضها وذلك بعد طرحها لمجموعة من الإشكاليات حول مادة التاريخ المدرسية وظروفها في مجتمع متعدد التلوين كالمجتمع اللبناني.
وهكذا يتوزع مضمون هذه الدراسة على محورين متلازمين: الأول: نظري يتناول أرضية عامة لأي مدرسة بإعطائه لمحة عن التاريخ في إطاره العام من حيث الأهمية والوظيفة والتفسير. كذلك لمحة عن تاريخ المناهج المقررة وظروف إصدارها والسياسة التعليمية التي توجهها وتوجه كتاب التاريخ المدرسي. الثاني عملي ويتناول العديد من طرائق تدريس التاريخ في إيجابياتها وسلبياتها وظروف تطبيقها بالإضافة إلى أهمية الوسائل التعليمية في توضيح المادة وإغنائها، وأخيراً طرق ووسائل التقديم للطالب في تحصيله للمعرفة وتوعية قدراته ومهاراته الفكرية والعملية.
