يتناول هذا الكتاب مسائلَ في النحو كثُر فيها الكلام في عصرنا الحالي، فبعضها نُسِبَ إلى النحاة فيها الوهمُ والخطأُ في الاجتهاد، وأنّهم لم يوفّقوا إلى الحكم الصواب فيها: مثل عدّهم تاء التأنيث الساكنة حرفاً، والصواب أن تكون ضميراً، شأنُها شأنُ التاء المتحركة، إذ هي لا تختلف عنها، وكعدم عدّهم حروف المضارعة ضمائر مع أنها لا تختلف عن الضمائر الأخرى في الدلالة.
وبعضها نُسِبَ الخطأُ فيها إلى جمهورهم، كمنع تقدم الفاعل على الفعل. وبعضها نُسبَ الحكمُ فيها نسبةً غير صحيحةٍ: نحو ما نسب إلى الكوفيين من أنّهم لا يقسّمون الأفعال إلى ناقصة وتامة، وغيرها من المسائل التي تحتاج إلى تحقيق وإنعام نظر. وقد قام الدكتور فاضل صالح السامرائي بالتحقيق في هذه المسائل للوصول إلى الحقيقة وأفرد لها هذا الكتاب الماتع.
