إنّها تقارير موجودة في محفوظات وزارة الخارجيّة الإسبانيّة بمدريد، ترجع إلى القرن التاسع عشر، كتبها سفراء وقناصلة إسبانيا لدى الباب العالي وهم قنصل إسبانيا العامّ في بيروت، قنصل إسبانيا في دمشق، قنصل إسبانيا في القدس، وسفير إسبانيا في الأستانة.
جمعتُها من ملفّات يصل وزنها إلى ألوف الكيلوغرامات إذ إنّ هذه الملفّات تحتوي على معلومات تتعلّق بدول كبيرة غير دول العالم العربيّ والإسلاميّ الذي عاصمته الأستانة.
والغريب في هذه التقارير وخاصّة تلك الصادرة عن سفارة إسبانيا في الأستانة فإنّه في التقرير الواحد توجد معلومات عن عدّة دول لا علاقة لها بالعالم العربيّ وبالتالي لا تهمّنا لأنّ البلد الذي نريد الحديث عنه هو لبنان ولبنان في ذلك الحين أي في القرن التاسع عشر كان تابعاً لسورية وسورية تابعة لتركيا (الباب العالي) وخاضعة لنفوذ الدول الأوروبيّة الكبرى في ذلك الحين، فرنسة وإنكلترة وبروسية والنمسا وروسية.
فخرج من هذا المزيج الغريب العجيب هذا الكتاب الذي أقّدمه للقرّاء الذين يهمّهم تاريخ لبنان وما كتبه قناصل إسبانيا وسفرائها عنه، وقد عاشوا الأحداث فجاءت معلوماتهم دقيقة لا يمكن الشكّ بصحّتها فلا تحابي الوجوه.
لم أُنقص ولم أزد في النقل من الإسبانية إلى العربيّة بل ذكرت الأحداث كما وردت في التقارير دون أي تعليق من قبلي، تركت ذلك للقارئ، في كثير من الأحيان لا أذكر اسم صاحب التقرير أو إذا ذكرته أخطئ في كتابه اسمه، حتى في هذا لم أحاول أن أتعرّف عليه من مصدر آخر غير النصّ الموضوع أمامي، فعذراً.
